Earthfood Pizza with Rustic Roasted Tomato Sauce. Oh, and football.

I tried a whack at Earthfood Pizza this weekend.
To eat while I viewed my football.

Viewing football =  staring blankly at the TV screen in an fuzzy trance, some interval snoozing accompanied by a little drooling, followed with a jolt to consciousness by Steven Tyler's rendition of the star mangled banner, god bless'm.

So here we sit with two very important subject matters to discuss...
Cheese-less Pizza and Football.

#1 Football.  I've learned that open & clear that communication is the key to relationships...

Dear Football,
I so wish I could love you. I realize that you inject joy into the hearts of so many Americans. And for that I am thankful for you. Maybe I'm a crappy citizen for not enjoying you as well. I've tried! I swear.

I've asked many questions about your ways, only to forget the answers immediately. I've attempted to spice you up with the tailgate party approach, which only leaves me two sheets to the wind and knowing less than before. I've even gone so far as to join a fantasy football team with Sweets, only to lose interest immediately after the draft.

I wish I knew how to make our relationship better, for the sake of interacting with the men in my life. But I have some issues with you... Why do you have to have so many damn rules? And why are you so long? I oftentimes feel mislead by you... 15 minute quarters my ass. Just keep playing. Why do you have to stop so much? Also, why are your coaches always screaming at the players? Don't you know you're making them cry! That hurts my heart.

So I guess what I'm asking of you, football, is that maybe you try to work on these issues so that we could have a better relationship.

Peace & Love, Chandra Nicole

#2 Cheese-less pizza

I've made different variations of veggie type pizzas in the past, including this black bean pizza I made for Cinco de Mayo last year. But never a pizza without cheese.
Although it totally felt like a normal thing to do, having not eaten cheese for over a month, it was still a little strange leaving it off.

My Guests thought it quite a bit strange that we might be actually "enjoying" such a unfortunate pizza, but I must admit it was rather incredible... dare I say better than it's cheese laden counter part?

My conclusion: Earthfood pizza is wholesome and filling and I didn't even feel awful about going back for more. Holla!

You should watch this super hilarious short on the three stages of cheese-less pizza, from a fantastic blog I just found, Cadry's Kitchen. Then go check it out.. you'll L-O-V-E her. I do.

What I put on my "unfortunate" delicious Pizza

This picture is rather blurry... Maybe this is what pizza looks like after taking the tailgate party approach to loving football.

RUSTIC ROASTED TOMATO SAUCE ~ plop 2 pints of cherry tomatoes on a baking sheet drizzle with olive oil then S&P generously. Roast at 400 degrees until bursty (about 30 minutes) Place in a saucepan and smoosh, add a palmful of basil, a palmful of oregano, a teaspoon of sugar, and more S&P to taste. Bring to a simmer, and reduce to desired thickness.

CARAMELIZED ONIONS ~ slice one sweet onion thinly. Saute for 15-20 mintues with a pinch of salt until nice and caramely.

GARLIC BABY BELLAS ~ cut a pound of baby bellas into nice meaty slices. Saute for just about 5 minutes with a drizzle of olive oil, a minced clove of garlic, and S&P.

ROASTED RED PEPPERS ~ cut 3 red peppers in half, removing seeds. Place cut side down on baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, S&P. Bake the same as tomatoes. Cool, remove charred skin, and cut into chunks.

Place all this goodness on top of an olive oiled whole grain pizza crust , and bake for 10-15 mintues, depending on how crispy you like your crust.

Do you love Football? If so, do you have any tips on how I might enjoy it too??

  1. you are hilarious girl! i'm not a big football fan either, but i don't mind watching the end to a very close game. i somehow get really into it, even though i don't know who i'm ever cheering for, ha

    1. Good point!! I have found myself enjoying the ends of very close games also... Maybe I should include a request for more of those in my letter to football? :)

Thanks for stopping by! I was on your blog yesterday for the first time as well... It's so pretty.

I'll be seeing you around, I'm sure!

  2. I'm no help in the search for the love of football! Both of my brothers played in high school, which meant I've been in the football stadium for many hours in my life. I like the trappings of sports - cozy blankets in the stands, drinks, or an event focused around appetizers like a Super Bowl party. But in the end, when I've gone to Super Bowl parties, I'm ultimately disappointed because I just want the appetizers and NOT have to watch football. Luckily, in my dating life I didn't have to endure football for anyone. (Although, I had my fair share of baseball and more Dr. Who than I would have watched otherwise. Luckily, I've gotten into the last one.)

Cheeseless pizza is surprisingly delicious, isn't it? Even though Daiya is widely available and often touted as the best vegan cheese, I really prefer it without. It feels like you can taste the ingredients so much better. Caramelized onions are a great topping idea! Thanks for the shout out to my blog! Cheeseless pizza lovers unite! :)

    1. I have two brothers that were both into sports too... how in the heck did we end up caring so little about them! My boyfriend loves all sports, so I feel it from all angles.

Luckily for me though, he also loves theater, and music, and arts in general for that matter... he's even gone to the ballet with me! So, that makes his love of sports much more tolerable. I really don't mind basketball, and I would totally sit outside in the sun to watch a baseball game. I LOVE sunshine.

But now I'm wondering, Who is Dr. Who?? I'm very intrigued.

Holla for Cheeseless pizza lovers! :) I haven't experimented with vegan cheeses, but I can't say I really have the desire to. I really don't miss cheese at all.

Hiya! Love hearing from you... it's my fave.
